“National Technical University “Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute” : Science and Education amidst War”
Abstract - Symposia paper
The military aggression from Russia has brought certain adjustments to the scientific and educational activities of the NTU "Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute". Kharkiv, which is geographically close to the borders, has experienced significant disruptions and damage, which has undoubtedly had a drastic impact on daily life, the educational process, and scientific research. Some of the university's professors and researchers found themselves outside the country and had to adapt to new circumstances. Those who remained also found themselves in less favorable conditions for conducting scientific work. However, despite these circumstances, the educational and scientific processes at the university gradually resumed. The digitization of the educational process began at the university during the pandemic. The use of educational technologies based on the implementation of the Office 365 program made it possible to organize the educational process as early as March 2022. Scientific research continues despite certain circumstances in Kharkiv regarding the supply of electricity. Although the material and technical base needed for the experimental component is practically all damaged, the use of modern educational technologies and the experience of leading European institutions allows for the improvement of the educational process and scientific activity. The participation of professors in the educational project "Open Educational Resources with Ukraine" supported by the DAAD and LUH has provided an opportunity to further digitalize the educational process. The application of special packages BISON, Zenodo, e-Doer will contribute to the digitalization and openness of education as well as the positioning of Ukrainian researchers in the international scientific space.

The image of the world war ii during Russo-Ukrainian war: perception by Ukrainian state, society and scientists
Abstract - Symposia paper
Today, Ukraine is going through a full-scale military invasion by Russia. The experience of the contemporary Russian-Ukrainian war has significantly influenced the perception of the events of the previous war on Ukrainian lands - World War II - by Ukrainian state, society and scholars-historians. The rethinking of the previous war began after the start of the hybrid war in 2014 - decommunization processes are taking place. Soviet/Russian ideologemes are disappearing from legislation, school textbooks and discourse in general, changes are taking place in the public memorial space. During a full-scale war (from 2022), there is a process of rethinking the role of Russia and Russian-Ukrainian relations from a historical perspective. Decolonization processes are taking place in Ukrainian discourse. This also influenced the perception of World War II and, as a result of the implementation of legislation, changes in the memorial space. The image of Ukraine during World War II is also of great interest to researchers. Changes are taking place in the school curriculum.
In the proposed report, we will analyse the above-mentioned processes in the context of Ukrainian legislation, analysing changes in the politics of memory and contemporary historical politics. The source base of the research is official legislative acts, speeches and posts of political figures, public figures, scientists, Ukrainian textbooks and school programs, visual sources, etc. Methodologically, the report will be based on the achievements of Memory studies, especially historical politics.

Development of target research programmes at the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and approaches to evaluation of their results
Abstract - Symposia paper
The practice of target research programmes at the National academy of sciences of Ukraine began in the 1960s-1970s. Since 2002, the Academy has allocated all of the increased public funds on a target-oriented and competitive basis largely to research projects and advanced applied developments in areas of critical importance for the scientific, technological, socio-economic and cultural development of Ukraine.
Whereas the main feature of the above-mentioned studies is related to the implementation of specific goals reflected in the programmes, procedures for their evaluation were developed accordingly. The epistemological criteria for assessing the quality of this knowledge are complemented by economic, political, cultural, and moral criteria; and also are accompanied by social control. In particular, it involves interaction with potential customers, representatives of higher education institutions and authorities. This interaction is implemented through specially constituted councils, which are a collegial scientific and advisory body for managing the target programme. The council determines the strategy, creation and implementation of the programme, resolves fundamental issues of resource provision, reviews the status and evaluates the results of their implementation. As a rule, the scientific council, in addition to staff members of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, includes staff of higher education institutions, heads of industrial enterprises and representatives of the authorities. In this case, evaluation will focus on the results match up to the tasks and their value for later use.
