Ken brings to projects his affinity and proven abilities to engage with multiple organisations, producing integrated results for both flexible and creative environmental solutions. He has demonstrated his abilities to lead projects and advises clients on policy development at all levels of government.
Ken is an excellent communicator and has an excellent understanding of the implications and procedures of the Resource Management Act and other environmental legislation. He has also had significant involvement in preparing numerous resource consent and plan change applications and their associated assessments of environmental effects in relation to a wide range of planning and resource management projects, including large scale and complex energy and utility proposals.
As an accredited RMA decision-maker, Ken regularly acts as an independent Hearing Commissioner. Ken also acts as an expert planning witness before Council hearings and the Environment Court. As an independent Hearing Commissioner, Ken has considered a wide range of proposals, from business parks and recreational airports to residential and commercial developments to leisure and recreation and 3 waters. This broad experience has given him a detailed understanding of regulatory planning and resource management issues, which he can draw on, as needed, to assist DCC with planning and consenting matters through the LTES Panel.
Mark has had significant roles in a range of post-earthquake projects in Christchurch for both the public and private sector. Project work of note includes the Avon River Precinct and East Frame/Rauora Park, treatment and management of the cleared Port Hills and Flat Land Residential Red Zone, master planning and public space at Christchurch International Airport and Waterloo Business Park. As a landscape architect, Mark enjoys the variety of project work, including working as part of multi-disciplinary teams where collaboration of ideas and knowledge are key.
Since late 2017, Mark has been instrumental in the opening of Boffa Miskell’s Ōtepoti Dunedin office and is primarily based there. He is enjoying the new challenge of establishing a presence in a new location and is excited about the development to occur in Dunedin in the next ten years.
The Christchurch Town Hall is a world class performance venue and the acoustics of the Douglas Lilburn auditorium are recognised internationally. This has been a highly complex and demanding restoration and rebuild project which has taken over 4 years to complete construction. The building has been strengthened to 100% of the new building standard and significantly modernised to ensure generations of Christchurch people can continue to enjoy and experience this venue.
Outside of work Simon enjoys a busy family life with two young active boys. He is passionate about the outdoors and has recently completed the two day Coast to Coast event.
Having grown up and still residing in Tuahiwi, Arapata has a strong understanding of the Ngāi Tūāhuriri history, values and whakapapa. Traits that have guided him in his many various roles, including the formative years of Matapopore Trust. A trust established under the mandate of Ngāi Tūāhuriri to work alongside CERA during the rebuilding of Christchurch. His work with the Endangered Species Recover Group for Kiwi was acknowledged by both the Department of Conservation and Kiwis for Kiwi last year when he received the Mana Tiaki award for leadership in Kaitiakitanga.
Nick is a Project Lead Consultant with Holmes Consulting LP, part of the wider Holmes Group. He is a Chartered Professional Engineer with over seven years’ experience across a range of projects in New Zealand, Australia and Canada.
Nick is currently the Project Director of the second stage of the Christchurch Arts Centre rebuild. This project involves the seismic strengthening, full new servicing and fit out of the numerous Group 1 heritage buildings that make up the Arts Centre precinct. This work is of a scale and detail unprecedented in New Zealand. Nick has intricate knowledge of the design, consenting and construction challenges and opportunities presented by this project. He manages a team of approximately 100 people working on the project from engineers to stone masons to interior designers.
Nick is also involved in the initial stages of the Christchurch Cathedral rebuild, including developing the technical temporary works design for the global stabilisation of the building, and overall construction sequencing and constructability. He works closely with a variety of disciplines within the project team.
Tanya is a freshwater scientist and ecological consultant with leading environmental consultancy firm Boffa Miskell.
With over 15 years of professional experience in applied scientific research, ecological surveying, monitoring and freshwater management, Tanya has an excellent understanding of the range of pressures on, and drivers of, aquatic ecosystem health.
Tanya is passionate about freshwater ecology and works closely with engineers, councils, infrastructure contractors, government agencies and private landowners always striving to find ways to enhance habitats and conserve freshwater species.
She has a long history of scientific research and monitoring of urban waterways and has an excellent understanding of Christchurch’s rivers and streams.
In 2013, she worked closely with the Christchurch City Council and Christchurch Earthquake Recovery Agency to develop a robust and repeatable monitoring programme to measure changes in the stream health of the Avon River after the Avon River Precinct rehabilitation works.
She is always excited to share her knowledge on the health of Christchurch’s waterways.
Phil joined LPC in November 2018. Phil’s role looks after LPC’s external and internal communications, community and stakeholder engagement, and the environmental management team and sustainability policy.
He has worked in central government and in the private sector, in both corporate affairs and commercial roles. Phil worked previously as the General Manger for the Canterbury Employers’ Chamber of Commerce and for Air New Zealand as Head of Government and Industry Affairs, and managed long-haul market expansion in their Networks team. He also worked in Parliament in various roles, including as Deputy Chief of Staff in the Office of the Prime Minister.
Phil has a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts majoring in Political Science from the University of Canterbury.
Most recently, Jared has been responsible for delivering the regulatory approvals and environmental management for the post earthquake recovery and development of Lyttelton Port.
